Helping the business grow and work better

For growth and improvement to work well, the foundations underneath need to adapt too.

Has the business grown but the way things work behind the scenes has not quite kept up?

Do you want to improve a process, system or way of working? Or do you know the business could work better, but the right changes are not yet obvious?

Before changing anything, it helps to understand what is working now, what is starting to stretch, and what the business needs next.

Where business analysis helps

Business analysis is one of the ways I do that.

It is a structured way of understanding how the business actually works and what may need to adapt as it grows or improves.

That can involve:

  • Following processes from start to finish

  • Understanding where work slows down, gets repeated or is lost between teams

  • Looking at whether systems still support the way people need to work

  • Clarifying roles, responsibilities and ownership

  • Following the flow of information, decisions or money

  • Identifying where existing ways of working are limiting capacity or creating unnecessary effort

  • Comparing what happens day to day with what the business now needs

The aim is not to change things for the sake of it.

It's to understand what's working, what could work better and where changes would make the biggest difference.

How I work

I gather information from the people involved and look at the numbers, systems, processes and the way work happens in practice.

People often see different parts of the same picture. One person may understand the process, another knows where it regularly gets stuck, while the financial information shows the effect somewhere else.

My job is to bring those pieces together.

From there, I can help identify where there is capacity to improve, what may need to change as the business grows, and what should be left alone.

Sometimes that leads to a small practical improvement.

Sometimes it means redesigning a process, changing a system, improving controls or clarifying responsibilities.

And sometimes it shows that a bigger change is needed.

When this can be useful

This can help when:

  • The business has grown and existing ways of working have not kept up

  • You want to improve capacity without necessarily adding more people

  • A process or system is starting to hold the business back

  • You want better information, controls or visibility as the business grows

  • Roles or responsibilities need to evolve

  • You are planning and improvement and want to understand the knock-on effects first

  • You want to make the business work better to capture problems before they become serious

  • You know something needs to change but are not yet sure what the best solution is

Why work with me?

Business analysis is something I have used throughout my career, alongside 25+ years in financial management and more than 10 years in senior roles across finance, operations and change.

That wider experience helps me look at growth and improvement across the business rather than treating one part in isolation.

I am interested in how the different parts connect, what is helping or getting in the way, and what needs to change for the business to work better in practice.
