Understanding what's really happening
across the business
Knowing what is really happening is always the best place to start.
The business may be growing, changing or working differently than it used to. You may be considering an improvement, a new system, a restructure or simply trying to understand why the day-to-day feels harder than it should.
Before deciding what to change, you need a clear view of where things stand now.
Where business analysis helps
Business analysis is a structured way of understanding how a business actually works.
That means looking beyond individual reports or processes and seeing how information, money, work and decisions move across the business.
It can involve:
-
Following processes from start to finish
-
Understanding where work slows down, gets repeated or falls between teams
-
Looking at how systems support the way people actually work
-
Clarifying roles, responsibilities and ownership
-
Following the flow of information, decisions or money
-
Comparing what happens day to day with what the business now needs
The aim is not to find fault.
It is to understand what's working, what may need to change, and what's worth leaving alone.
How I work
I gather information from the people involved. I look at, and what's behind the numbers, the systems and the way work happens in practice.
People often see different parts of the same picture. One person may understand the process, another knows where it regularly gets stuck, while the financial information shows the effect somewhere else.
My job is to bring those pieces together.
From there, I can help you see where the gaps, risks or opportunities are and what deserves attention first.
Sometimes that leads to a small improvement.
Sometimes it shows that a bigger change is needed.
And sometimes it confirms that something is working perfectly well and does not need touching.
When this can be useful
You might need a clearer view when:
-
The business has grown and existing ways of working may not have kept up
-
You are planning a change and want to understand the knock-on effects first
-
A system or process needs improving but the right solution is not yet clear
-
Different teams or reports are giving you different versions of what is happening
-
You need an independent view before making a bigger decision
-
You know something needs attention but are not yet sure where to start
Why work with me?
Business analysis is something I have used throughout my career, alongside 25+ years in financial management and more than 10 years in senior roles across finance, operations and change.
That wider experience helps me look at the business as a whole rather than analysing one part in isolation.
I am interested in what is actually happening, how the different parts connect, and what that means for the decision you need to make next.
